Vinnytsia Pirogov National Medical University
Department of Histology
At the Vinnytsia Pirogov National Medical University, we signed an agreement with the head of the Department of Physiology, Professor Luidmyla Soloviova, in May 2011. In December 2012, Professor Soloviova's husband, Professor Mikhail Pushkar, Head of the Department of Histology at the same university, asked us for help. He wanted to avoid killing numerous animals, including dogs and cats, to produce new histological slides and asked about non-animal options.
Histology, the study of tissues, can be studied perfectly well with computer simulations. We donated a laptop, several CD's, and a collection of 100 real human tissue slides to Professor Pushkar. He was impressed by the excellent quality of the computer programs, and particularly pleased with the human slides, which are much more useful for a medical school than animal tissue slides anyway. 245 vertebrates and 100 invertebrates of various species will now be spared.

This project was made possible thanks to a donation from Tierschutz-Stiftung Wolfgang Bösche. Many thanks!
