Sumy National Agrarian University

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

Department of Virology, Pathological Anatomy and Poultry Disease

Back in 2008, we equipped the Department of Anatomy, Normal, and Pathophysiology at the Sumy National Agrarian University with non-animal teaching materials. Thanks to the positive experiences of the Head of department, Prof Dr Maria Kambur, and lecturer Dr Alexander Kalashnikov, an agreement was signed with another department at the university.

The Department of Virology, Pathological Anatomy, and Poultry Diseases needed to renew its histological slides. Instead of killing animals, computer simulations and human tissue slides are now used. Doctors Against Animal Experiments donated a laptop, two sets of human histological slides, and numerous computer programs.

Head of Department Prof Dr Gregory Zon assured that other animal experiments had been replaced by self-made films and films from Soviet times.

The agreement was signed on 12 December 2014, confirming that 283 vertebrates, including dogs, cats, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, and pigs, as well as 80 invertebrates (roundworms), will not be killed.
