Faculty of Biology
Department of Zoology

During our visit to the Faculty of Biology at the V.I. Vernadsky Taurida National University Simferopol in September 2009, we were not only able to sign agreements with two departments, but also to raise interest of other heads of departments for humane education. Dr Alexandr Stryukov from the Department of Zoology, among others, was very enthusiastic about the presentation of our Russian-dubbed educational films and some computer programs. He immediately wanted to sign a contract with us. But first some preparations had to be made. In March 2010, Dr Corina Gericke and Dimitrij Leporskij were back in Simferopol to check the use of the animal-free teaching materials donated so far and to sign the new agreement.

120 vertebrates (30 each of rats, frogs, pigeons and fish) and 380 invertebrates (e.g. earthworms, crabs, starfish, etc.) will be spared in future. The department received from us a notebook and a number of computer programmes and DVDs.

Control visit

The control visit was carried out by Dimitrij Leporskij in November 2010. Dr Alexandr Stryukov was very satisfied with the animal-free teaching materials, especially the high-quality videos. However, it is problematic that the films are in English. This is a general problem with the films and programmes, most of which come from the USA or the United Kingdom. The texts of the English films on the anatomy of various animals have now been translated into Russian.
