Prof Dr Alexander Pinsky is a pioneer of animal-free education in Kharkiv and far beyond. His activities and positive influence date back to the year 2000. He established a multimedia loan centre for animal-free teaching materials at the Kharkiv Pedagogical University and, with our help, replaced all remaining animal use in his department with humane means in 2011. Thanks to his advocacy, we were also able to sign two agreements with university teachers in Kiev and Poltava. An ecological and bioethical centre is currently being set up at the Kharkiv Pedagogical University and Prof Pinsky has ensured that the initially planned animal-using demonstrations are immediately replaced by humane methods. We signed an agreement with him for this on 9 September 2021.

The centre received a notebook and some CDs and DVDs. According to the agreement, 44 invertebrates (earthworms and mussels), 12 bats and 12 birds will not be used and killed for the course on biological methods. The main aim of the new centre is to train students in humane methods and to shape their thinking in the direction of animal welfare. In this way, Prof Pinsky believes, we and science can gain REAL specialists. It has also been decided to establish InterNICHE's loan system in Ukraine at this new centre.
