Kyrgyz Arabaev University Bishkek
Faculty of Biology and Chemistry, Department of Biology and Biodiversity
Following the lecture and presentation tour by project leader Dimitrij Leporskij and InterNICHE coordinator Nick Jukes through Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in May 2012, Dimitrij returned to the two Central Asian countries in May 2014. During the four-week trip, he gave presentations at four universities in Kyrgyzstan and two in Uzbekistan. As a result, three agreements were signed on the spot. Some of the teaching materials were delivered directly; additional resources were sent later by mail.
At the State Arabaev University in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek, the 2012 presentations had aroused great interest, but no agreement was concluded at that time. During the return visit, however, an agreement was signed on May 19, 2014, with the Department of Biology and Biodiversity. The Department is very poorly equipped, and the donated laptop was therefore gratefully received. As a result, 190 frogs and 70 other animals—such as fish, birds, and mammals—can now be spared from death each year.
