Belarusian State Agricultural Academy Gorki
Department of Agroecology
In December 2015, Dimitrij Leporskij, representing InterNICHE and Doctors Against Animal Experiments, gave several lectures on animal-free education at a bioethics conference at the Sakharov Institute in Minsk.
This was the impetus for Prof. Yuro Mirenkov, Dean of the Department of Agroecology at the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy in Gorki, to join our project.
The agreement was signed in April 2016. As a result, 383 mice per year are now spared from a painful death caused by poisoning with pesticides and alkaloids. In Gorki, the number of animal experiments had already been significantly reduced since Soviet times. The university has a large collection of preserved specimens, good technical equipment with computers, and veterinary clinics where students can learn animal diagnosis and treatment. Now, animal use has been reduced to zero. In return, the academy received numerous computer simulations and educational films from us.
